Upgraded to Fiesty Fawn

Just rebooted into Ubuntu Fiesty Fawn. I was going to do a clean install but it was taking too long to do a full migration to another pc. So I started the online upgrade about 12 hours ago and now its done.

The desktop effects are nice. I thought you needed high end graphics cards like ATI or Nvidia to run this stuff. I guess it runs better with those.

    12 hours? Yikes!

I hadn’t switched to Edgy, due to trouble with the actual upgrade process, so upgrading would’ve meant a Dapper->Edgy and Edgy->Fiesty upgrade.

The download of the ISO took around 4 hours and the install took way under an hour, so I guess for any laggards like myself the best option would be to go for the clean install.

I’m not sure if it’s just me, but don’t things go juuust a little bit faster?

How fast is it compared to 6.06 and older?

I’ve got an older computer, (p3) which seems to reject every Linux distro I throw at it…

Tried the latest xubuntu it seems OK, I’m downloading Fiesty and will try it out

ya 12 hours is a long time. But it was faster than upgrading from dappper to edgy from what I can remember.

This was a new install of edgy that I upgraded. The upgrade process itself was quite smooth, only problem was the download speed. Some more time was lost since it pause the install to ask about some old config files.

Speed wise I don’t notice too much of a difference. The desktop effects where nice for a day or so, now I reverted back to normal.

I don’t mind the bootup speed etc as long its stable. I had some problems on edgy where skype and firefox kept crashing from time to time.

Ya I also went for xubuntu for a old pc it was more happy with it. I would look at slax or gentoo for a p3.
