I had a problem on a PHP page that was supposed to redirect to another page after some process was done. This is the code I used.
header("Location: http://example.com");
This kept giving me a
Web: no gateway reply
So after looking at the PHP manual for the header function and HTTP status codes I managed to get it working with this redirect.
header("Location: http://example.com", 307);

I tried out JoikuSpot with my Nokia N80 and notebook. Its simple to setup and worked pretty well. This is definitely useful on the road.
This method can't beat 3G modems since they can go up to 7.5Mbps. The Nokia N80 only supports 384 kbps. But its better than buying a dedicated 3G modem for me because I don't need to use it often between ADSL points.
If you don't already have a 3G phone it might be cheaper and faster to get a 3G modem.
I checked Mobitel and Dialog for 3G modems a few months ago. Back then I was on Linux only and they didn't have drivers etc. This should work on Linux as well since its on WIFI.
JoikuSpot has a few limitations at this time. It only supports HTTP/HTTPS and the WIFI hotspot is not secure. They say other protocols and security is on the way.
Here is the introduction from the developers:
JoikuSpot is a free mobile software solution that turns a Nokia Smartphone to a WLAN HotSpot. You will carry internet in your pocket. Connect your laptop to web everywhere! FREE -- INSTANT -- EASY

Looks like there is a mobile film contest in town. Nice idea but I have a few gripes.
- Its a closed contest. In the age of YouTube, open sharing and voting. This seems a bit backward.
- To do decent video you need a pretty good and recent phone, which already would have 3G, so what's the point of giving winners another 3G phone?

Now that we got 3G what are we going to do with it? Video calls are cool. I've made a few but most people don't have compatible handsets yet. MMS is nice too you can send bigger pics without waiting forever. When you get bored of video calls and MMS check out some of these mobile sites and apps. Also please send in your suggestions in the comments.

How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone?
To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on
your phone:
* # 0 6 #
A 15 digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your
handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe.
Should your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give
them this code.They will then be able to block your handset so even if the
thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless .
You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever
stole it can't use/sell it either.
If everybody does this, there would be no! point in people stealing mobile
phones.
Please spread this useful information around.
Thanks to Shanaka
Check out YouTube on your phone at http://m.youtube.com/.
They do warn you about the potential smack-you-silly data bill before going to the site, which is cool.
Here's hoping one day local mobile data rates would be fast enough and cheap enough to surf sites like this.
Until then my Nokia N80 over WiFi over ADSL will have to do.

Following up to Google Mobile Applications I thought I'd check out how Yahoo was doing in the mobile web department. I have to say Yahoo looks pretty decent and well thought out with their mobile portal.
The place to start exploring is the Yahoo! Mobile website. There are 2 main ways you can access Yahoo! Mobile from your phone.
- Yahoo! Mobile Web at http://m.yahoo.com/
- Yahoo! Go is a mobile application that runs in your phone that helps you browse Yahoo services more easily. To install Yahoo! Go go to http://m.yahoo.com/ and click the Y! Go link.

Google Mobile is the place to watch for Google's web applications that are crossing over to the mobile world.
Recently Google Calendar was added to this Google Mobile suite of applications.
Here is a current list of mobile web applications by Google.
I found some more features down http://www.google.com/m. Lets hope someone standardizes these links. Right now they are all over the place. In case Google asks me heres my take for more sensible mobile urls.
